REQUIRED 10 hours per 4 years
Citation: 67 Pa. Code § 71.5(d); 67 Pa. Code § 71.6
Administered by PennDOT (S endorsement on the driver license, not a DOE certificate). Initial certification requires 20 hours of school-bus-specific instruction (14 classroom + 6 in-bus). To keep the S endorsement, every 4 years the driver must complete a 10-hour refresher (7 hours classroom + 3 hours vehicle familiarity/driving) and pass a 25-question knowledge exam from the PA School Bus Driver's Manual with 80% (§ 71.6); a physical examination is also required under § 71.3.
CDL & endorsements

No general CDL continuing education beyond renewal paperwork. PA CDLs are valid 4 years (2 years for drivers 65+).
Hazmat: Standard federal process: TSA Security Threat Assessment (~5-year cycle) via IdentoGO enrollment plus hazmat knowledge test; no PA-specific hazmat renewal quirks surfaced in research.
