School bus in-service

Vermont DMV administers the program. The school bus endorsement renews every 4 years (it expires with the license, and school-bus/hazmat CDLs are only issued for 4-year terms); each renewal requires attending a DMV-run school bus driver clinic and then passing the DMV school bus endorsement examination (vision plus knowledge test, 80% to pass). A clinic is valid for six months, and an endorsement expired 6+ months requires the full initial examination. No hour count for the clinic is stated in the rule; no separate annual in-service mandate was found.

CDL & endorsements

CDL renewal cycle: every 4 years.

No general CDL continuing-education requirement; Vermont CDLs are issued for 2 or 4 years at the holder's choice, but hazmat and school bus endorsement holders must take the 4-year license.

Hazmat: Hazmat endorsement CDLs can only be issued for a 4-year period; TSA Security Threat Assessment renewal runs on the standard 5-year federal cycle.
